Varosha city is a part of Cypriot city of Famagusta. Today Varosha is a ghost town, but in 1970, Famagusta is worlds number one tourist destination. Varosha city was the modern tourist area of Famagusta. Varosha was quickly evacuated, when it came under Turkish control in 1974. After 1974 it has remained abandoned and under the occupation of the Turkish Armed Forces. Entry in Varosha is not allowed for the public. Today the total population of Varosh is 0.
Varosha was major tourist attraction spot in 1970-74. Due to increasing numbers of tourists, many new and buildings and hotels were constructed. Varosha was one of the most popular tourist place in the world in 1970. It was favourite destination of many celebrities. Famous celebrities include Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Raquel Welch, and Brigitte Bardot. From a distance Varosha looks like a bustling resort town, but now it is completely dead. Varosha also known as the “Ghost City”.
You can see clothes are still hanging in the closet of long abandoned buildings. Car showroom is remain fully stocked with vintage 1974 model car. Some historic photographs show Varosha in its heyday, crowded beaches, people enjoying its pleasant temperature, seaside bars.Even the international airport of Varosha is seen abandoned since 1974.
